***

## General

### **Refresh Rate:**

* **Description:** Sets the interval (in milliseconds) at which the motion processing loop runs and sends data to the motion simulator. Lower values mean higher update frequency. A value of 2 ms corresponds to a 500 Hz motion loop.
* **Range:** 1 – 20 ms
* **Default:** 2 ms (500 Hz)

{% hint style="info" %}
The default of 2 ms (500 Hz) is recommended for the smoothest motion. Increasing this value lowers the update rate — for example, 4 ms = 250 Hz, 10 ms = 100 Hz. Only increase this if you experience performance issues.
{% endhint %}

### **Log Verbosity:**

* **Description:** Controls the level of detail written to the application log. Higher verbosity captures more diagnostic information, which can be helpful for troubleshooting. Lower verbosity reduces log noise during normal use.
* **Options:** DEBUG, INFO (default), WARNING, ERROR, CRITICAL
* **Default:** INFO

{% hint style="info" %}
Set to **DEBUG** when troubleshooting issues or tuning the safety filter. This logs safety filter activations, acceleration values, and other detailed diagnostic data. Set back to **INFO** during normal use to keep logs clean.
{% endhint %}

### **Process Priority:**

* **Description:** Sets the Windows process priority for DR Sim Manager. Higher priority may improve motion responsiveness by reducing scheduling delays, but can affect overall system performance.
* **Options:** Normal, Above Normal, High
* **Default:** High

### **Minimize to System Tray:**

* **Description:** When enabled, closing the main window minimizes DR Sim Manager to the system tray instead of exiting the application. You can restore it by clicking the tray icon.
* **Default:** Disabled

### **Launch Minimized:**

* **Description:** When enabled, DR Sim Manager starts minimized — either to the system tray (if **Minimize to System Tray** is also enabled) or to the taskbar. Useful for setups where the application should run in the background on startup.
* **Default:** Disabled

{% hint style="info" %}
Combine **Launch Minimized** with **Minimize to System Tray** and the `-autostart` [command line argument](https://docs.departedreality.com/dr-sim-manager/advanced/command-line-arguments) to have DR Sim Manager start motion completely in the background when your PC boots.
{% endhint %}

### **Check for Updates:**

* **Description:** When enabled, DR Sim Manager automatically checks for new versions once per day on startup. If a new version is found, a dialog will appear with a **Download** button (opens the releases page in your browser) and a **Later** button to dismiss. You can also check manually at any time from the right-click context menu.
* **Default:** Enabled

### **Source List:**

* **Description:** Opens the list of games. Allows users to favorite or hide sources.
* **Action:** Click on `Edit` to modify the source list.

### **Send Anonymous Usage Data:**

* **Description:** When enabled, DR Sim Manager sends anonymous crash reports and usage statistics to help improve the application. No personal data is collected — see the [Privacy Policy](https://docs.departedreality.com/dr-sim-manager/support/privacy-policy) for full details. Disabling this completely stops all telemetry transmission.
* **Default:** Enabled

### **Create Debug Report:**

* **Description:** Generates a comprehensive debug report for troubleshooting purposes. The report includes system information, GPU details, current settings, simulator configuration, output configuration, profile configuration, and recent log entries. See [Creating a Debug Report](https://docs.departedreality.com/dr-sim-manager/advanced/debug-report) for full details.
* **Action:** Click the button and choose a save location.

### **Reset to Defaults:**

* **Description:** Resets all settings on this page back to their factory default values. This does not affect profiles, sim config, or output configurations.
* **Action:** Click the **Reset to Defaults** button.

## Audio Notifications

These checkboxes enable or disable sound alerts for specific events during motion:

* **Safety Filter** — Plays a sound when the safety filter activates due to a motion spike exceeding the configured thresholds. Useful for tuning — you can hear when spikes are being caught without watching the log.
* **Axis Overallocation** — Plays a sound when one or more axes are overallocated (i.e., cue outputs exceed the available axis travel).
* **Crash Detection** — Plays a sound when a crash is detected in the game.

All audio notifications are **disabled** by default.

***

## Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts allow you to control DR Sim Manager without switching to its window. Each action can have both a keyboard shortcut and a controller button assigned.

* **Set:** Binds a keyboard shortcut or controller button.
* **Clear:** Unbinds a keyboard shortcut or controller button.

For the full list of available shortcuts, see [Keyboard & Controller Shortcuts](https://docs.departedreality.com/dr-sim-manager/general/keyboard-shortcuts).

{% hint style="warning" %}
DRSM may not recognize keyboard shortcuts that include the ALT key when emulated from software like Stream Deck or Voice Attack. Use keyboard shortcuts without the ALT key when using these types of software to trigger the shortcut.
{% endhint %}

## Motion

### **Global Gain:**

* **Description:** Adjusts the overall intensity of the motion. This scales all motion output proportionally. Can also be adjusted via keyboard or controller shortcuts.
* **Range:** 0.00 – 1.00
* **Default Value:** 1.00

### **Input Gain:**

* **Description:** Adjusts the strength of the incoming telemetry signal before it is processed. Lowering this value reduces the overall input intensity, which can help tame aggressive telemetry data from certain games. Can also be adjusted via keyboard or controller shortcuts.
* **Range:** 0.00 – 1.00
* **Default Value:** 1.00

### **Soft Axis Travel Limits:**

* **Description:** When enabled, this option limits the motion on all axes to prevent abrupt stopping when hitting the limit of an axis. Instead of a hard stop, motion smoothly decelerates as it approaches the travel limit. This is automatically disabled when using the Manual Control source.
* **Default:** Enabled

### **Start Motion In Paused State:**

* **Description:** When enabled, motion starts in a paused state whenever you press Start. The simulator will move to its home position but will not respond to game telemetry until you manually resume. This is useful if you want to verify everything is connected before allowing motion.
* **Default:** Disabled

## Safety

### Safety Filter Activation Thresholds

The safety filter monitors each axis independently and intervenes when acceleration exceeds a configurable threshold. For a detailed explanation of how this works and how to tune it, see [Spike Filtering](https://docs.departedreality.com/dr-sim-manager/advanced/spike-filtering).

#### **Translational Axes:**

* **Description:** Sets the acceleration threshold for triggering the safety filter on translational axes (surge, sway, heave) based on G-force. When acceleration on any translational axis exceeds this threshold, the filter activates on that axis only.
* **Range:** 0.10 – 50.00 Gs
* **Default Value:** 3.00 Gs

#### **Rotational Axes:**

* **Description:** Sets the acceleration threshold for triggering the safety filter on rotational axes (pitch, roll, yaw) based on angular acceleration. When acceleration on any rotational axis exceeds this threshold, the filter activates on that axis only.
* **Range:** 100 – 50000 °/s²
* **Default Value:** 2000 °/s²

### Crash Detection

Crash detection monitors game telemetry for sudden impacts and can automatically respond to protect the user and equipment. This is a separate feature from spike filtering — see [Spike Filtering](https://docs.departedreality.com/dr-sim-manager/advanced/spike-filtering) for the difference.

#### **Aircraft/Flight Vehicles:**

* **Description:** Controls what happens when a crash is detected in a flight game.
* **Options:**
  * **Auto** (default) — Automatically determines the best response based on the crash severity.
  * **Pause Motion** — Pauses motion output when a crash is detected.
  * **Disabled** — No special action is taken on crash.

#### **Cars/Ground Vehicles:**

* **Description:** Controls what happens when a crash is detected in a driving/racing game.
* **Options:**
  * **Auto** (default) — Automatically determines the best response based on the crash severity.
  * **Pause Motion** — Pauses motion output when a crash is detected.
  * **Disabled** — No special action is taken on crash.

### Source Data Limits

Setting these limits clamps incoming telemetry to prevent large motion spikes from occurring during extreme conditions in-game. This is applied before the safety filter.

#### **Acceleration:**

* **Description:** The acceleration telemetry data from the selected game is clamped to stay below this value. Applies to all vehicle types.
* **Range:** 1.00 – 100.00 m/s²
* **Default Value:** 30.00 m/s²

#### **Angular Velocity:**

* **Description:** The angular velocity telemetry data from the selected game is clamped to stay below this value. This value only affects flight games.
* **Range:** 1 – 1000 °/s
* **Default Value:** 180 °/s

#### Working with Docks

Docks can be rearranged within the main window by dragging their title bars. You can also drag a dock out of the main window to make it a floating panel — drag it back to redock it.

**Right-click context menu:** Every dock has a consistent right-click menu on its title bar with the following options:

* **Always On Top** — Keep the dock above other windows.
* **Browse Profiles** — Open the Profiles folder.
* **Browse Plugins** — Open the Plugins folder.
* **Open Log** — Open the log file location.
* **Help** — Open the online documentation.
* **Check for Updates…** — Manually check for a newer version of DR Sim Manager.
* **Announcements** — View the latest announcements.
* **About** — Show application info.
* **Manage License…** — View and manage your license. Depending on your current state, this opens the license management window, the activation dialog, or the migration dialog for Microsoft Store users. See [Licensing & Activation](https://docs.departedreality.com/dr-sim-manager/general/licensing).
* **Convert to Window** / **Convert to Dock** — Switch between dock and independent window mode (see below).
* **Close Dock** — Close the dock panel.

Some docks also have additional actions at the top of the menu. For example, the 3D Visualizer includes a **Camera View** submenu, and the Gain Display includes options to **Increase Size**, **Decrease Size**, and **Reset Size**.

**Independent windows:** If you want a dock to behave as a fully **independent window** (with its own taskbar entry that can be minimized and restored separately from the main window):

1. Right-click the dock's title bar and select **"Convert to Window"**.
2. The dock becomes a standalone window with its own taskbar entry.
3. To return it to the dock system, right-click the window's title bar and select **"Convert to Dock"**.

Closing a detached window automatically returns it to the dock system. This is especially useful for multi-monitor setups where you want to keep certain panels visible on a separate screen independently of the main window.

{% hint style="info" %}
The 3D Visualizer cannot be converted to an independent window due to rendering limitations. All other docks support this feature.
{% endhint %}
