Variant Cue

Overview

The Variant Cue in DR Sim Manager allows users to create and manage different gain profiles for various vehicles. This feature is particularly useful for adjusting motion intensity levels for different vehicle types, such as GT cars versus Formula cars, without the need to switch profiles manually. The Variant Cue supports automatic vehicle switching and provides quick gain adjustments, making it a versatile tool for simulating realistic vehicle dynamics.

Key Features

  • Multiple Vehicle-Specific Gain Profiles: Users can create multiple gain profiles tailored to specific vehicles, allowing for precise control over motion intensity.

  • Enable/Disable Motion Axes: Individual motion axes can be toggled on or off.

  • Automatic Vehicle Switching: When enabled, the Variant Cue automatically switches to the appropriate vehicle profile when a vehicle change is detected.

  • Quick Gain Adjustments: Users can easily adjust the overall motion intensity multiplier, ranging from 0.0 to 10.0.

Controls

Vehicle Profiles Table

The Vehicle Profiles Table is the central interface for managing vehicle-specific gain profiles. It includes the following columns:

  • Active: Indicates the currently active profile with a checkmark.

  • Variant Name: Displays the name of the variant profile.

  • Vehicles: Lists the vehicles associated with each variant.

  • Gain: Allows users to adjust the gain for each variant using a spinbox.

Auto Switch

The Auto Switch feature, when enabled, automatically:

  • Switches to the matching vehicle profile when a vehicle change is detected.

  • Creates a new profile if none exists for the current vehicle.

  • Applies the profile's gain settings to the simulation.

Axis Controls

Users can enable or disable individual motion axes, including:

  • Sway (lateral)

  • Surge (longitudinal)

  • Heave (vertical)

  • Pitch

  • Pitch-Surge

  • Roll

  • Roll-Sway

  • Yaw

This feature helps reduce motion noise by disabling unnecessary axes, especially in driving simulations.

Tuning Tips

1. Default Profile: Maintain a "Default" profile with a gain of 1.0 as a baseline. This profile cannot be deleted and serves as a fallback when no matching profile exists.

2. Vehicle-Specific Tuning: Create profiles for different vehicle categories. For example, GT cars typically require lower gains than open-wheelers. Consider vehicle weight and power when setting gains.

3. Axis Optimization: Deselect affected axes as desired. Commonly deselected axes include Pitch and Roll in driving games.

4. Auto Switch Usage: Enable Auto Switch for racing games with multiple vehicles. This feature is useful for automatic profile switching during vehicle changes, and profiles are created automatically for new vehicles.

Managing Variants and Vehicles

  • Adding Variants: Users can add new variants through the right click menu, ensuring unique variant names.

  • Moving Vehicles: Vehicles can be moved between variants using the right click menu, allowing for flexible profile management.

  • Deleting Vehicles: Vehicles can be removed from variants, with automatic switching to the Default variant if necessary.
