Speed Limits Cue

The Speed Limits Cue restricts how fast each motion axis can move, regardless of what the other cues are requesting. This is a safety and comfort feature that prevents the platform from making dangerously fast movements, even during sudden telemetry spikes or aggressive motion profiles.

Unlike Travel Limits (which restrict how far the platform can move), Speed Limits restrict how quickly the platform transitions between positions.

Each of the six motion axes has independent settings:

  • Enable/Disable: Toggle checkbox to activate the speed limit on a specific axis
  • Speed Limit: Maximum allowed speed for that axis
    • For linear axes (Sway, Surge, Heave), this is in distance units per second
    • For rotational axes (Pitch, Roll, Yaw), this is in degrees per second
    • Lower values produce gentler, slower movements
    • Higher values allow faster platform response

When the platform’s calculated movement speed exceeds the limit on any enabled axis, the speed is clamped to the configured maximum. The platform will still reach the target position, but it will take longer to get there.

  • Speed Limits are primarily a safety feature — set them to the fastest speed you’re comfortable with, then forget about them
  • Start with generous limits and reduce them if the platform ever moves uncomfortably fast
  • Heave and Surge are typically the most noticeable when too fast — consider setting these slightly lower than the others
  • If your platform makes loud mechanical noises during fast transitions, reduce the relevant axis speed limits
  • Speed Limits work independently of Smoothness settings in the Primary Cue — you can have responsive motion (low smoothness) while still capping the maximum speed
  • Yaw speed limits handle wrap-around correctly, so they work properly with the Advanced Yaw Cue’s unlimited yaw mode
