Belt Tensioner Cue

The Belt Tensioner Cue drives seat belt tensioner hardware to simulate G-forces through physical pressure on your body. It processes vehicle accelerations across three axes (sway, surge, and heave) and converts them into left and right belt tensioner outputs, giving you a tactile sense of braking, acceleration, and lateral forces.

  • Sets a baseline tension level applied to both belt tensioners at all times
  • Use this to maintain a constant light tension so the belts feel “live” even when stationary
  • Set to 0 for no baseline tension

Each axis (Sway, Surge, Heave) has the following controls:

  • Enable/Disable: Toggle checkbox to include or exclude the axis from belt tensioner output
  • Smoothness: Controls how much the tensioner output is filtered
    • Higher values create smoother, more gradual tension changes
    • Lower values produce sharper, more immediate feedback
  • Gain (Positive): Multiplier for forces in the positive direction (e.g., acceleration, rightward force, upward force)
  • Gain (Negative): Multiplier for forces in the negative direction (e.g., braking, leftward force, downward force)
  • Input Limit: Maximum input value accepted before clamping or soft limiting
    • Prevents extreme telemetry spikes from causing jarring belt movements
  • Soft Input Limit: When enabled, input values approach the limit gradually using a smooth curve rather than a hard cutoff
    • Creates a more natural feel at the edges of the input range

The left and right belt tensioners receive different tension levels based on the combined effect of all enabled axes:

  • Sway (lateral forces): Tightens the belt on the side you’re being pushed toward during cornering
  • Surge (longitudinal forces): Both belts tighten under braking; both loosen under acceleration
  • Heave (vertical forces): Both belts tighten during upward forces (e.g., cresting a hill)
  • Start with only Surge enabled to feel braking and acceleration, then add Sway for cornering
  • Set the Offset to a small value (5–10) so the belts maintain light contact with your body
  • If belt movements feel too abrupt, increase smoothness
  • Use different Gain Positive and Gain Negative values to emphasize braking over acceleration (or vice versa)
  • Enable Soft Input Limit for a more natural feel — hard limiting can cause sudden stops in belt movement
  • Adjust Input Limit downward if your telemetry source produces large acceleration spikes
